Discussion

1. Now that we know what Erica is trying to do, do you still think she a villain or is she really trying to save the world?

Melissa: I still think there’s a better, more humane way to save the world, like, I don’t know, ASK the Evos if they would lend their powers to the cause?

Rueben: I can understand her reasoning now that we have an explanation, but I’m still deeply concerned about her way of trying to save the world.

Liz: I think she really is trying to save the world, but she’s going about it in a very heavy-handed way. Why not let the Evos be heroes instead of rounding them up like witches for a bonfire? Why did she lie to her own daughter? There’s a big fire wave coming that’s going to destroy the world, what’s so hard about just saying that?

Cay: I guess if you look at it from her point of view, if she believes that the whole earth is going to die in a storm of fire, then killing or torturing a small number of people in comparison could seem reasonable. Not that I agree with her choices, but it’s the age-old ethical riddle of do you sacrifice a few for the survival of many?

2. Were you surprised to find out that Anne Clarke is not really Tommy’s mother?

Melissa: Yes in the sense that I wasn’t expecting it, but no in the sense that it wasn’t shocking. It’s certainly not the most surprising thing happening on this show, and I don’t know Tommy, or Anne, well enough to care whether they’re blood relatives.

Rueben: No, I wasn’t. I had one of those “feelings” from the beginning that something wasn’t quite right with her especially with the way she went off on “penny for your thoughts” guy.

Liz: Nope! I think I started to suspect it on the night he went to that party. It was obvious the Penny Man wasn’t a stranger to her and she seemed to be trying to hide Tommy for more reason than that he was her son.

Cay: I kind of saw it coming, not exactly sure why, but it was confirmed as soon as she needed blood and he offered to donate, I knew there was no way his blood would match.

3. Luke’s pain was pretty hard to watch. Do you think he’ll just become a lone wolf or will he go looking for answers to why he is now an Evo?

Melissa: He seems like an “I need answers,” or at least “I need closure”, kind of guy, so I’m betting he sets out to get them.

Rueben: I think he’ll reluctantly go looking for answers, or he will “somehow” end up where the other Evo’s are and not have a choice but to participate once the bigger reveal of what is impending becomes clearer to all of them.

Liz: I think he’ll be a loner for a while but ultimately, somehow he’ll be among the heroes who save the world. Maybe even sacrificing himself in the process. I could see that happening.

Cay: Yep, I’m thinking some sort of redemption pathway – “atoning”, to quote him directly. I see a big showdown with Joanna in his future. I wonder if they will find his ring in the wreckage of the house and then he will be presumed dead?

4. Dearing had a surprising turn of events in his career as an Evo hunter. Now he owes Carlos a debt. Will he pay or betray?

Melissa: I still maintain that Dearing is a mercenary, working for whatever benefits him the most. Therefore I think he’ll pay until he gets a better offer.

Rueben: Maybe a little of both. I don’t trust Dearing and I have a feeling that he’ll try to stick to his “ways”, which is going to be all that much harder now that the eyewear from Renatus has been distributed to law enforcement.

Liz: That’s a bit difficult to answer because we still don’t know if Dearing was acting on his own or working for someone higher up the food chain. If he was on his own, he knows that he can be made by anyone wearing Epic glasses. So he might stay with Carlos for protection. However, if he was working for someone else, like Erica perhaps, he’ll betray Carlos and turn him over to her, even though he’s not really an Evo.

Cay: I was too busy trying to figure out what the tube up his nose was supposed to be doing to think much about his character arc, haha! I’m not sure I’d call him a mercenary, more like a coward – he did what he had to do to protect himself until he was exposed.

5. What did you take away from this episode?

Melissa: All of these storylines and characters are connected in more ways than they seemed to be in the beginning. And Taylor is really good at fake crying.

Rueben: There is a lot of bad stuff coming, and I don’t think anyone is prepared for how bad it’s going to get. And, part of me is a bit disappointed in the progress of the show. I was excited in the beginning, but that seems to be waning as each new episode airs. Bummer!

Liz: There’s a big, bad, world-ending storm coming, so I think everybody better stop hunting and killing the Evos because they’re the only ones who will be able to overcome it.

Cay: Noah needs to take out that clone guy, Harris Prime – his habit of showing up in multiple places at one is getting annoying. Erica needs to bring a few more people in on her master plan.
