Web Series Spotlight: All’s Fair Play

All's Fair Play #2

Last June, as part of my ongoing web series spotlight, I paid tribute to the online series “The Autobiography of Jane Eyre” that hails from Canada’s KalamaTea Productions.

KalamaTea Productions has now launched their second production, their very first original comedy (inspired by Shakespearean elements) called All’s Fair Play, that debuted back on June 21.

All’s Fair Play takes place over the course of less than 24 hours, telling the story of Becca and Liam, a young couple whose love and impending nuptials become the subject of contention for their friends on the night of their combined bachelor/bachelorette party. But the evening takes a turn for the weird and shenanigans ensue as everyone has to deal with the consequences of their decisions.

Viewers who watched “The Autobiography of Jane Eyre” will recognize faces from that production in “All’s Fair Play,” as well as some fresh new faces. This homegrown Vancouver company is comprised of an all-female production team and a mostly female writing team.

The cast includes Erika Babins (who also serves an Executive Producer on the project), Donna Bozorgerbahimi, Elina May Chidley, Xavier De Salaberry, Randi Edmundson, Robin Gadsby, Imelda Gaborno, Alysson Hall (who had the lead role in “The Autobiography of Jane Eyre”), Lucas Hall, Emily Henney, Jasleen Kaur, Kyle Kouwenhoven, Matt Reznek, Fojan Nixie Shabrang and Courtney Shields.

The writers on this project are Christina Bialik, Ryan Bright, Chris Coutts, Kyle D’Odorico and Emily-Rose Kilpatrick and the crew includes Nessa Aref, Ren Boggio, Kathryn Hall, Sinead Hughes and Marco Perri.

You can follow them on Twitter @kalamatea; on Tumblr here; on Facebook here and you can subscribe to their YouTube Channel and watch all of the vlogs and episodes (current to date) here. You can also check out the All’s Fair Play website here.

Using her favorite online handle, Rueben is an East Coast-bred gal who is now a permanent Californian and a lifelong tv-oholic. She watches at least 25 TV shows a week, goes to the movies as often as possible, listens to music every waking moment, reads every day and “plays” on the internet every chance she can. Some of her current favorite TV shows are Outlander, Sweet Magnolias, Wednesday, The Mandalorian, The Equalizer, Fire Country, Miss Scarlet and the Duke, The Rookie, Cobra Kai, Virgin River, The Witcher, Leverage: Redemption and School Spirits.  She is looking forward to the season premieres of Hudson & Rex on UPtv and Skymed on Paramount+ as well as the return of fall TV albeit starting in February.
