SCANDAL Recap: Heavy is the Head

By  |

Here’s the thing – I have spent 4 years getting worked up over Scandal. FOUR YEARS watching a show that once was about a woman who had more power, more clout, more everything, devolve into a show about which man she should sleep with.
So this year I’m not taking it so seriously. I’m done. Shonda said this season was going to mark the return of the Gladiator. We’ll see. Until my trust has been restored snarky commentary is pretty much all you’re going to get.

“Even if it is the single greatest true love story of all time, are we supposed to care, am I supposed to swoon?”
Sally Langston just summed up my entire thought in one sentence. Don’t get me wrong, I wanted Vermont. I wanted “one minute”. I wanted to root for Fitz and Liv, but for her to go running back to him time after time, when she has much better options, has now become exhausting. I wonder if I implement a game where I take a drink every time Liv makes a bad life choice just how hungover I will be Friday morning? Or better yet, I take a drink when something completely ridiculous happens.

I will give it to Kerry Washington though, she wears the hell out of her gowns. She looks fierce at the State Dinner.

Drink One: Did Olivia just lie to Abby about her relationship with Fitz. Really? We aren’t telling our best friend who we are sleeping with?

Drink Two: Bring on the ridiculous. Why does Rosen bother to argue with Olivia? He’s going to end up doing whatever she wants. Just agree from the onset and get it done.

Drink Three: Olivia choosing to hide like a child when she sees Abby in the White House instead of admit she is sleeping with a man everyone knows she loves. It’s not a secret!

Drink Four: Are “they” really playing Fitz and Mellie’s song over a discussion about his divorce? We’ve come so far from that One Minute in the hall of the campaign office.

Drink Five: Return of the Gladiator, my ass. Olivia telling Huck to get a better plan than her when he needs help is completely ridiculous. I’m not saying Huck doesn’t have some monumental problems but where was Olivia when he was falling to pieces…oh right, she was all self involved and not focused on her people.

Drink Six: 56 minutes before Scott Foley is on the screen and he only has a two word line to say.

FitzI suppose we should we talk about the case of the week? An American woman, married to a Prince, ends up dead (very Princess Di like) and it turns out the killer is the stuffy old Queen. Olivia does seem to have some sense left because after she finds out it was the Queen she tattles to the Prince. Before she figures it out though she does allow the Queen & her son to hire her to get all of the photos of the Princess lying dead in the street (car accident in case you aren’t old enough to remember how Princess Di died) back from the paparazzi. Quinn tracks almost all of them down, trading the photos for copious amounts of cash, apparently this pretend country has massive amounts of funds laying about.

I’m pretty sure the lesson Olivia is supposed to take away from this case is she shouldn’t be involved with a high powered man. Something Fitz doesn’t seem to get from the case of the week at all. He’s ready to tell the world about his love. No matter the consequences.

Join me next week won’t you? Sally Langston has outed Olivia and Fitz so the stress from that should really bring out the best in Olivia.
