FOREVER Roundtable: “The Night in Question”

By  |

The first season finale of Forever airs tonight on ABC, and our roundtable is here to dissect the events in the last episode, “The Night in Question”, as well as make predictions for the finale.

1. This episode had a lot of twists and turns, and they were actually somewhat believable. Did you guess it was Adam on the motorcycle before the big reveal?

Rueben: Yeah, I kind of did, but yet I wasn’t quite sure. This was a very twisty-turny episode, keeping you guessing as to “whodunit” and keeping you wondering what really happened.

Bethann: I was taken by complete surprise when the motorcyclist turned out to be Adam. Didn’t see that coming but I loved that twist.

Louise: I think as soon as the sheriff mentioned the slight man with dark hair I started to put things together, but it wouldn’t be that surprising to me that he was the one who was after Abigail and what she knew of Henry.

Melissa: It never crossed my mind, although I figured Adam was involved somehow. It’s rare that I don’t see a twist coming a mile away, so way to go, show!

2. So Adam was, inadvertently, the cause of Abigail’s death after all. Will this give Henry some closure, or a new desire for revenge? Also, did he really think Abigail would still be alive?!?

Rueben: Yes, I think his learning the truth about what happened to Abigail will give him closure; and while he knew in his mind that there was no way for Abigail to still be alive, his heart, of course, never wanted to give up hope. But, I do think he will still hold it against Adam because he was essentially the reason Abigail took her own life.

Bethann: I think as far as Abigail goes, Henry has some closure now. I don’t think he expected her to be alive at all. He said as much to Abe. As for Adam, I don’t think Henry will look for revenge. He understands that Abigail took her own life to protect him because she thought Adam meant to do Henry harm. But I don’t think he holds Adam responsible.

Louise: Part of me wants to think it’ll give Henry closure, but I think he’s been looking for Abigail for so long that it won’t come easy. If that translates into revenge or a way to kill Adam, I can’t tell right now.

Melissa: We haven’t seen revenge from Henry yet, even after his first wife had him committed. He was angry and hurt, but he didn’t seek revenge. I think he’ll be able to get closure from this.

3. Pretend you’re Jo for a minute. You’re a detective with, allegedly, deductive and inductive reasoning skills. You’ve just watched as Henry went to great lengths to find a woman who would’ve been in her 90s, then exhibited real grief over her death. You know she was Abe’s mother, but think Abe and Henry are just friends. Who do you think this woman was to Henry?

Rueben: If I were Jo, I would like that this woman was someone more than just Abe’s mother to Henry; but given how old the woman was, I would be very confused about what possible connection she could have to Henry. But the fact remains that she was important to not just Abe but also Henry and I would want to know why.

Bethann: I might think that Abe’s mother was a reminder of someone Henry once loved. Honestly, I don’t think that was played out very well. It was left unfinished. Perhaps they’ll revisit it in next week’s episode? I don’t know, but if I were Jo, I’d be pressing Henry for answers on who this woman was to Henry. They can’t leave that dangling for much longer.

Louise: There’s a logical part of me that would want to put all the pieces together and realize that Henry might have been closer to Abe’s mother than he let on, but I don’t know if I’d go so far as to think that Henry and Abigail were anything to each other. Maybe I’d think that Henry grieves much more strongly than Abe for a woman that meant to much to Abe, or maybe I’d think there’s something else at play and not everything is as it seems.

Melissa: I’d be suspicious, but I don’t know that I could make the leap to thinking Henry and Abigail were connected romantically.

4. Next up is the season finale. Care to make a prediction for our still-on-the-bubble show’s first, and possibly only, finale?

Rueben: At this point, I think the show has a 50/50 chance of renewal; and the show will probably leave us with a cliffhanger of Adam and Henry facing off against each other with both of the weapons that could end each of their lives. I think they’ll want a nail-biter for the fans.

Bethann: I think Jo will find out about Henry’s ‘condition’. I think that Adam will finally die his last death because they found the dagger that killed him. I think that Lucas may also find out about Henry, now that he has access to Henry’s home lab. I think that all these things could make for great episodes in a second season.

Louise: I’d love for Jo to know Henry’s secret so that the Abe and Henry won’t have to walk on eggshells about what they know and how Henry knows it, but honestly I think it’ll end with Adam making a grand escape and evading the death he wants so much because Henry will always want to hunt him down for what happened (indirectly) to Abigail.

Melissa: Now that Henry knows the only way to die for real is to be killed by the same thing that made him immortal, at least according to Adam’s theory, then I suspect Henry will go in search of whatever killed Adam the first time and try to finish him off for good. And I think someone on Team Jo has to figure out Henry’s secret, although I’m not sure who it will be.
