MODERN FAMILY RECAP: QUEER EYES, FULL HEARTS

By  |

After a week off, Modern Family is back! Cam is a star (as if we didn’t already know) and he gets a moment in the spotlight. Michael Urie (who I love from Ugly Betty) guest stars as a sassy stylist and I loved it! I hope we will get to see more of him in future episodes. Let’s get down to it!

We begin with Cam and Mitch at a charity event for clean water. Cam spotted a local news anchor and Mitch was super excited and had to meet her. Mitch wanted to tell her about a case he was working on involving homeless people, but once she found out Cam was an openly gay high school football coach, all eyes were on Cam.

Phil and Claire wanted Haley to get off of her butt and get a job. Andy (The Manny) came over and Claire was curious if they were a thing or not (after the kiss he gave her in the last episode it is definitely a possibility).

Gloria hired a Spanish tutor (guest star Nicholas Gonzalez) for Manny because she wasn’t successful when she tried to teach him. He is super hot and Jay got a little jealous when he talked to Gloria in Spanish. Jay asked Manny what they were saying and he replied, “If I knew, he wouldn’t be here.” Too Funny!

The news anchor wanted to do a story on Cam being an openly gay football coach! Mitch couldn’t believe it but acted like he was excited. Mitch really wanted to pitch the news anchor a story about his case so he was a little hurt that once again Cam was in the spotlight. Cam had a favor to ask Mitch. Traditionally, the Coach and his wife would make a pancake breakfast for the football team before the homecoming game and Cam wanted to carry on the tradition and show people they were just like any other straight couple. Mitch hated the idea of making pancakes for the football team but agreed.

At the breakfast, Mitch was doing all the cooking and Cam was treating him like a 50’s housewife. He was walking around all macho (as best he could) and he was focused on getting the best shots for his news piece. He didn’t help Mitch with the breakfast at all. Mitch told him that he didn’t appreciate how Cam was treating him and he was tired of it always being the Cam show.

Manny could see that Jay was jealous of Diego, the Spanish tutor, and took the opportunity to ask Jay if he would sign a permission slip for him to transfer into French. Done! When Gloria found out, she was furious. She said it was nice having someone to talk to in her language in her home. They had no idea how hard it was to translate everything in her head before she said it, and how people would laugh at her for not knowing a correct word. She is really smart in Spanish and they have no idea. They felt bad when Gloria stormed out of the house.

Haley told Claire that she and Andy were having sex just to make her uncomfortable and get her to be quiet. Did anyone else find it strange that Claire thought they were having sex and let them go to the basement together to “do it?” Awkward! Anyway, they weren’t having sex; they were helping each other prepare for job interviews. Andy was interested in Real Estate and wanted to be Phil’s assistant (which Phil agreed to). Haley had an interview with a big celebrity stylist Gavin Sinclair (Michael Urie). Gavin was super fabulous and didn’t think Haley had enough edge. She proved herself and stood her ground and got the job. Way to go Haley!

Jay felt bad, and hired Diego to tutor him. He told Gloria (in Spanish) that he wanted to be able to tell her that he loved her in every language. So freakin sweet!

The Football team won the homecoming game and the news reporter was there to interview Cam. He told her he couldn’t do it without Mitch. He tried to give Mitch some of his shine by saying he was the real hero because he represents people without a voice everyday (he was proud of Mitch after sneaking into court to watch Mitch earlier that day).

Throughout the whole episode Phil was concerned about Alex studying too much and not getting enough sleep. Claire thought she was fine (even though she looked like a zombie). Alex came in the kitchen and fell apart because she was exhausted. Claire took her to bed and Phil was excited! Not because Alex was finally going to get some sleep, but because Claire was wrong about everything! Classic Phil.
