GAME OF THRONES: Comikaze Panel Recap

By  |

For fourty-five minutes on Saturday afternoon, Comikaze’s Hot Topic Main Stage was crowded with hundreds of excited fans all there to see Alfie Allen (Theon Greyjoy/Reek), Esme Bianco (Ros) and Gwendoline Christie (Brienne of Tarth) for a short question and answer panel.

The first few questions centered around some of the actors more difficult scenes to film (Theon’s castration, Ros’ scene with Joffrey and the stag’s head) and how each of the actors had to stay focused to keep going.

Christie’s first question was about the most challenging fight and she said it was the recent one with The Hound. At the end, she was constantly reminded that she’s acting on a television show for all that she does.

Allen and Christie both noted how hard that they each trained for their respective battle techniques (archery and swordfighting) and how hard they had to work at those skills to look as good as they are on the show.

With the show deviating from the books, neither Allen nor Christie have read much about what has happened to their characters in the rest of the book.

Fan questions came next and the first one was about what each actor would like their character to do. Allen wanted to join up with Bran, while Christie wanted to find an army and go fight with Daenerys Targaryen. Both ideas were met with applause and approval. If only both could be true. Or maybe they will be?

On the idea of making it to the end, Christie’s almost sure that Brienne might not and all she hopes from in the end is a glorious bloody death.

Related, the next question was about what set pieces or costumes they could get. Bianco received one of her costumes, after she died, Christie wants her own Oathkeeper (which she’ll get when Brienne dies) and Allen steals the candles.

When questioned about who each actor would like to do a scene with that they haven’t, Allen and Christie both looked at each other and each “You!” and Bianco wished she could have done a scene with Michelle Fairley (Catelyn Stark).

The moderator asked a question about which house the actors would be loyal to regardless of their characters’ allegiances. Allen and Bianco both said Lannister before Christie could say Stark. At least they’re all rooting for (or against) some of the biggest houses.

Christie was asked about Brienne’s relationship with Jamie Lannister and she hopes that that relationship isn’t over. She added, “I hope that George is listening” as if to help the fans know her intentions.

Not at all related to Game of Thrones a question was asked about how Allen feels about this song about him (written by his sister Lily Allen). He’s happy to be immortalized into song.

A fan asked about the characters greatest fears. Allen said Theon doesn’t want to be forgotten, Bianco said about the same for Ros and Christie doesn’t want to think that Brienne has let Catelyn Stark down.

In a question that is tied to recently internet events, a fan asked both Bianco and Christie about how it feels to be on the show when the show seems to be more misogynist than the books are. Christie’s answer focused on how strong all the women are on the show and is grateful that these steps exist in the first place. To see the full answer, watch this video.

One lighter question was asked about pranks or scandals on set and Allen retold this story on how the show had given him a fake script in which Theon was killed by Bran and how he was okay with leaving the show because it was a good death.

There were mixed reactions to a question if their characters would have killed Joffrey. Christie said that Brienne wouldn’t have done it, but given him a strong reprimand. Allen would have and Bianco wished she could have found someone else to do it, like Cersei.

To Allen, Theon is similar to Sansa Stark or perhaps Jon Snow. Christie feels that Arya and Brienne are alike, while Brienne and Jamie are opposites after a fan asked who each actor found was their character’s yin and yang.

The final question was a game of Marry, Shag, Cliff (well the less clean title for that game), and the answer were hilarious to end a panel on.

Allen said that currently he can’t marry or shag, but he’d kill Ramsey Bolton. Bianco said she’d do all three to Littlefinger. Christie said she’d shag Theon before his castration, marry Jon Snow and kill Ross Bolton.

The next season of Game of Thrones won’t air on HBO until next Spring, but maybe this can help us all until then.
