Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D: “Face My Enemy” Roundtable

By  |

In “Face My Enemy,” Coulson and May go undercover to retrieve an item that may hold answers to Coulson’s mysterious condition. We also get a little backstory about the history of their friendship.

1. Is it time for Coulson and May to bring the crew in on Coulson’s condition, now that they are using them in operations to learn more about it?

Leah: It was time to bring in the team when they started talking about plans that involved shooting Coulson in the head. In my opinion. Especially since Skye took the same “drug”.

Liz: I think so, yes. All of them together might be able to come up with a solution/cure. Skye might be the key to all that though.

Louise: Lords of Kobol yes! A thousand yeses! I swear that the more secrets are kept, the bigger the fallout from them is and that’s not something that the few remaining in SHIELD can handle or survive.

Jan: I absolutely think so. They have a talented team at SHIELD, and they may be able to contribute more if they have the whole picture. Skye, in particular, has a vested interest in what is going on with Coulson, and her computer skills could come in handy.

2. Gratuitous lingerie scene aside, what did you think of the May vs May fight?

Leah: The May vs May fight was fun. At the end the move where real May slammed fake May’s head into the table – I’m pretty sure I said, “awesome” out loud.

Liz: It was the best part of the episode!! May vs. May? Yes please! It was so well shot and well performed, it was like watching a well-choreographed dance.

Louise: It was pretty awesome, even if it meant we had to watch two women fight wearing lingerie and then an overly sparkly dress.

Jan: One May is bad-ass, two is off the charts. I’m just glad that the right “May” won.

3. At the urging of imaginary Simmons, Fitz finally took a step toward bonding with his new teammates. Was this the turning point toward Fitz getting back on track?

Leah: I hope so – Fitz saving the plane with the help of Lance had to be a boost to his confidence in joining in.

Liz: I sure hope so. He keeps breaking my heart every week. Either he moves on with the team or they have to bring Simmons back. However, I think it’s better if he can bond with the team. Fitz was a pretty strong character but he was always supported by either Simmons or Ward. I’d like to see a new, independent Fitz.

Louise: I hope it is that turning point. I need Fitz to be a bit more functional and less crazed and unsure. He spent so much of last year building up his credibility that now that it’s missing, I’m rather sad and desperate for a turn-around.

Jan: Fitz has been making small strides every week, but this one felt different. He was really making an effort to share something about himself with the group. I hope it’s the first step in getting his confidence back and giving him the sense of belonging he seems to be missing.

4. Who was the MVP of “Face My Enemy”?

Leah: MVP for me goes to Coulson and May as a team. With the history they have and the banter while taking down enemy combatants…it was just the best.

Liz: Agent May, no contest!

Louise: Can I give it to the team? Because this was a whole team operation to get everything working. It wasn’t just Coulson and May getting the painting, but everyone on the Bus also getting that back and running as it should.

Jan: It’s hard for me to decide between Coulson and May. I’m going to go with Coulson…he was pretty quick to realize the fake wasn’t the real May, and that punch in the face was incredible. Lucky for Coulson he was right!

5. What was your favorite scene?

Leah: I loved Coulson’s stretch/pose as he was preparing to do some acrobats to get through the laser grid. I’m almost disappointed May didn’t let him get farther into it before she entered the grid.

Liz: The only obvious answer I could give to this is the whole fight seen between May and fake May.

Louise: Coulson’s poor photo skills to get the owner’s eye scan because of how much Coulson sounded like a poor sad husband who goes along with whatever his wife wants.

Jan: Absolutely loved when Skye could hear May laughing in the background and the sound was so foreign to her she thought May needed help.
