THE VAMPIRE DIARIES: YELLOW LEDBETTER RECAP

This episode of The Vampire Diaries was pretty good! They worked the title Yellow Ledbetter into the story very cleverly. Bonnie struggles with a crossword puzzle answer #27 across (details to come). The answer was Yellow Ledbetter and it spun off a storyline that we can look forward to next week. Let’s get down to the nitty gritty!

We begin with a flashback of Damon and Bonnie right after the whole white light incident (4 months ago). The town is totally deserted and there is no one in sight. They thought they would be able to see the people that were still alive, but it didn’t seem so. Damon looked around and asked where the hell they were. That is the million dollar question.  Damon and Bonnie walked down a long road and everything seemed strange. Cars that were over 20 years old looked brand new, and when they arrived to Elena’s not-so burned down house Damon knew something was up. He saw a newspaper and showed Bonnie the date. May 10^th, 1994! Wow! Time warp!

Alaric asked Elena were if she was really ready for him to compel her to forget her true feelings for Damon. She said she was (after reminiscing about a few hot Damon moments). Alaric started to ask her questions about how she and Damon met. He attempted to alter her memory with each question but it got tough for her, and she was still remembering that he was he was her boyfriend and he died, so they took a break.

Enzo resurfaced with his face right in the middle of a woman’s boobs (he knows how to make n entrance). It was just a tactic to get information on how to find out where Bonnie and Damon were. She told him about a coven of witches from New Orleans (the Gemini Coven) that found a way to communicate with their family on the other side before it went down. So they might know where Damon and Bonnie are. Just when things were getting spicy, Caroline showed up and Enzo said, “Hello gorgeous!” in that glorious Enzo voice that I love. They left to go find the Gemini coven (at least that is where Caroline thought they were going). Enzo had other plans and they ended up at Stephan’s house in Savannah.  Surprise reunion!

Stephan was preparing dinner for Ivy, his girlfriend, so they crashed dinner (can’t say Stefan was too pleased to see them). Dinner was awkward. Caroline couldn’t believe that Stefan worked at an auto garage and Enzo gave off a creepy vibe. He told Ivy that she had a nice clavicle and that he was a neck person. Then to add icing to the creepy cake he told her that he had one of his witchy friends do a locator spell to find Stefan (remember she doesn’t know Stefan is a vampire or about the supernatural).

Damon was making pancakes, getting his drink and dance on (to Whatta Man by Salt N Pepa) and it was freaking hilarious! Seriously one of the funniest Damon moments ever! Bonnie came in from getting the grimoire from Grams house (and her teddy bear) and found Damon rocking out in the kitchen. She was hoping the grimoire could help her do magic again and Damon didn’t have too much faith in it. Their banter back and forth is great! They started to have breakfast when they noticed the moon over the house, Damon told Bonnie to check the paper again. It read May10th 1994. They were living the same day. Not only were they stuck in 1994, but they were stuck reliving May 10^th.

Alaric and Elena were back to their “Erasing that Elena ever loved Damon from her memory” project. Elena would tell a detail about her and Damon and Alaric would change the story and make it super general. But it wasn’t working. She still remembered that he was her boyfriend and he died. She needed to find the signature moment when she realized that she loved him. If she couldn’t remember that moment, it would not work and he would not be able to erase her true feelings for Damon.

2 months later -Damon and Bonnie were living another day. Damon was still cooking pancakes and Bonnie has been doing the same crossword puzzle (and still can’t figure out 27 across). One thing I know, if they keep showing Damon cooking pancakes, I’m gonna have to make a trip to Ihop. Seriously!

At Stefan’s, dinner made a turn for the worse. Caroline got seriously frustrated with Stefan for giving up his “investigative work” (code for looking for Damon) to work in a garage. He told her that he was happy and she should drop it. Enzo had enough and stabbed Stefan in the hand with a fork. Ivy was shocked but Caroline compelled her to go upstairs with her. Enzo couldn’t believe that Stefan would give up on his own brother so easily. They had a few words and a major vamp fight followed. Punching, stabbing and finally Stefan snapped Enzo’s neck.

Alaric called Caroline because he hit a wall with Elena. He told her that she couldn’t tell him when she fell in love with Damon and Caroline said “that is because she was still with Stefan when she fell in love with Damon.” Worst part about it was that Stefan overheard the whole thing. Ouch!

Alaric went back to Elena and told her that she wasn’t being honest with herself and asked her to tell him about her feelings for Damon when she was with Stefan. She got defensive and said she loved Stefan and would never hurt him. Finally she admitted that it was her 18^th birthday after she and Damon spent the summer together looking for Stefan. Damon gave her a necklace that she lost (it was a gift from Stefan) and even though she knew it was painful for Damon she loved him because in that moment he was selfless. Alaric asked her if she was sure she wanted to go through with it and she said yes. Alaric told her that Damon never came into the room and then she remembered that Damon killed Jeremy. She called him a monster. It was done! Just like that her love for Damon was gone. He was just Stefan’s vampy brother who tried to kill her brother.

Caroline was crying in the car (because Stefan had been ignoring her calls and didn’t even listen to her messages) and when Enzo saw her he got pissed. He went back inside and grabbed Ivy by the neck when Stefan wasn’t looking. Stefan told him to let her go and he said “OK,” and snapped her neck like a twig! Whoa! Enzo does not care! He told Stefan that Caroline was crying over him because she cared so much and he couldn’t understand why. He said real brothers don’t give up and promised to ruin Stefan’s life every time he saw Stefan try to start over (since Damon once told him he wanted to ruin Stefan’s life, Enzo thought he would carry the torch).

Jeremy has really been having a tough time dealing with Bonnie’s death. So sad! He paid her phone bill so he could hear her voice and leave her messages. He was angry that she told him over the phone that she was going to die. I felt really bad for Jeremy; I hope he gets himself together. His little girlfriend who has been staying at the house is a car thief (Matt found out and wants her gone, she said her Dad lives in town and she needed to find him). She said her dad lives in town and she needed to find him (sounds fishy to me).

Matt was talking on the phone to the leader of the protection squad and found out that he was from a founding family of Mystic falls. Matt knew that he had to know all the secrets and supernatural side of Mystic Falls. Matt asked what family he was from and he said the Fells. He took his mother’s maiden name because if he didn’t his name would have been Tripp Fell (hilarious)!

Tripp hung up from Matt and opened the top to his van. There were several vampires in the back and he asked if they had any last words. They didn’t have a chance to respond before they all burnt up in the sun. Yeah, he knows what’s up with Mystic Falls-no question!

Bonnie and Damon were having another breakfast (is Damon ever going to drink blood? How is he surviving on pancakes? Can we see them have lunch for a change? Just a thought). Damon looked at the crossword puzzle that Bonnie has been doing everyday for the last two months and it was complete. He congratulated her for finally figuring it out and she laughed because she thought he was joking. She said, “I wish.” He asked her if she figured it out and she said no. Well he didn’t finish it either. Someone else is there with them, but who?
