What to Expect on TV in August

We are halfway through the year (WOW!) and there are still plenty of new and returning dramas as well as made-for-TV movies and/or mini-series airing on the major and cable networks throughout next month. The following are just some of the programming options coming up in August:

The Killing NEW

The final season (all 6 episodes) of The Killing will air on Netflix on August 1 and the first 10 episodes of the AMC series Hell on Wheel will start on August 2 at 9 PM.

The season finale of the Sundance mini-series Rectify will air at 9 PM on August 7.

On August 8, the new Cinemax series The Knick that centers on the Knickerbocker Hospital and the groundbreaking surgeons, nurses and staff, who push the bounds of medicine of New York in 1900, will debut at 10 PM.

The new Starz drama Outlander, based on the book by Diana Gabaldon that follows the story of Claire Randall, a married combat nurse from 1945 who is mysteriously swept back in time to 1743, will debut on August 9 at 9 PM.

That same night, the Hallmark Channel movie Stranded in Paradise will debut at 9 PM. The movie follows Tess Nelson, who is a poised and confident human resources executive aiming for a well-deserved promotion. But when her boss informs her she’s being laid off instead, Tess is furious and worried about letting down her demanding mother. Determined to use a business trip to an HR convention in Puerto Rico to score a new job, she is discouraged when the trip is a disaster from the start, and an approaching hurricane makes it impossible to fly home. But after bumping into a handsome fellow traveler, Carter, Tess opens up to the possibilities beyond her desk job, and the couple’s adventures on the island bring them closer while the hurricane rolls in.

Legends

Legendary actor Sean Bean stars as a deep-undercover FBI agent who may be losing his grip on reality in the new TNT drama Legends that will debut on August 13 at 9 PM.

On August 16, the Hallmark Movie Channel original movie Wedding Planner Mystery will debut at 9 PM. The movie follows wedding planner Carnegie Kincaid, who has just landed the job that could propel her small business into the limelight: the marriage of a concert pianist. But when someone dies in a suspicious car crash and the bride is kidnapped, the impending nuptials turn into a nightmare. Relying upon her sharp intuition, humor and active imagination, Carnegie attempts to root out the culprit.

Doctor Who 2014 NEW

Doctor Who will return on BBC America on August 23 at 9 PM with Peter Capaldi taking over the lead role followed by the new drama The Intruders, debuting at 10 PM. The series is about a secret society devoted to chasing immortality by seeking refuge in the bodies of others.

On August 24, the PBS Masterpiece mini-series Breathless will debut at 9 PM with a 90-minute airing. Jack Davenport (Smash and Pirates of the Caribbean franchise) will star as a brilliant surgeon who believes he can make a difference in women’s lives.

And, the Emmy Awards will air on NBC at 8 PM.
