Castle 6×14 “Dressed To Kill” Preview – UPDATE

By  |

This episode has now been rescheduled for Monday, Feb. 3

Allow me to start by reposting the Press Release.

A YOUNG WOMAN’S MURDER SENDS CASTLE & BECKETT INTO THE CUTTHROAT WORLD OF HIGH-END FASHION, ON ABC’S “CASTLE”
“Dressed To Kill” – When the assistant to Modern Fashion Magazine’s dictatorial editor Matilda King (guest star Frances Fisher) is found murdered, Castle and Beckett are thrust into the glitzy, ruthless world of high fashion in their search for the killer. Meanwhile Beckett’s history in the modelling world gets her access to a very special wedding surprise, on “Castle,” MONDAY, JANUARY 27 (10:01-11:00 p.m., ET) on the ABC Television Network.

So UGH. I totally misread that. I thought that Matilda King was going to be the victim, and it was instead – as you can see by my bolded text – her assistant. I, of course, stuck my foot in it and mentioned this everywhere – so apologies to everyone. EVERYONE. *sigh*. I shouldn’t mention some other details I might have gotten wrong, so I won’t, but let’s just say, I’m an idiot.

Now, let’s move on. This episode was pretty amazing. There’s been a streak of episodes lately where not only could I guess the murderer, but they appeared in the first two minutes of the show. And they were helpful – and pretty much telegraphed “I’M THE GUY/GIRL WHO DID IT!”. Finally we get an episode that’s convoluted in a good way. The clues twist and turn and lead us in several directions until they point to someone who you’ll probably have suspected, but not until you were misdirected a couple of times first.

Back in Season Two, Episode Three, “Inventing the Girl” – it was revealed that Beckett spent a short amount of time modelling. We get a slight payoff in this episode as we find out that she was offered a spread in Modern Fashion, but turned it down. the only person to say no to Matilda King. Ms. King is clearly a direct parody of the Miranda Priestly character from ‘The Devil Wears Prada’ – right down to the coat dumping. Not that I minded, Francis Fisher played it well and very effectively.

There were definitely some stereotypes thrown in, but I also have to say that when I’ve seen shows like ‘Project Runway’ and the new ‘Under the Gunn’ (which is kind of awesome, mostly because Tim Gunn is awesome), the stereotypes exist. I can’t fault them for that.

**REDACTED PARAGRAPH** I was informed that Elizabeth Beall also wrote as Elizabeth Davis, she married a former Castle writer, Will Beall and now writes under her married name. Thank you Rita Tutschulte on twitter for the updated info.

I hope you enjoy the episode, and I’ll be back after the Monday night airing to discuss it further. See you then!

Castle airs Monday nights at 10pm/9pm Central

Karen Lindsay, often teased as being "obscurely famous," talks a lot. (i.e. she podcasts). Her current and past projects involve television shows like "Chuck", "Castle", "Orphan Black", "Farscape", "Supergirl", "Lucifer" and many others. She's an avid gamer, reader, & collector of all things shiny - and while you may not think those things go hand-in-hand, they sometimes do. So don't ask her about how many pets she has in Warcraft. (or how shiny they are).
