ADVANCED REVIEW: BROAD CITY…AMY POEHLER KNOWS BEST

By  |

Amy Poehler has another hit on her hands but this time she is the executive producer of the New Comedy Central Show Broad City. Broad City was a popular web series created by Abbi Jacobson and Ilana Glazer (who also star in the show). This show is a wacky, smart and provocative comedy about two best friends in their twenties struggling in New York City. They aren’t perfect, they’re broke and they aren’t afraid of anything life throws their way.

In the pilot episode, Ilana (the wild one) and Abbi (nice and more reserved than Ilana) come up with creative ways to put together $200 so they can go to a Lil Wayne concert (they even return stolen office supplies to get cash, but they got a store credit instead). Fred Armisen guest stars as a creeper with a strange request for the ladies. This episode had some funny one-liners and I can see this becoming a quotable show. Ilana and Abbi are super funny and they have great chemistry on screen. I can’t wait to see what other mishaps and sticky situations these girls find themselves in.

I have to point out that it is awesome to see that Comedy Central picked up this show created by and starring women, since they have pretty much been a boys club until now. This show will not only attract female viewers, but men will enjoy the craziness of this show too. Bravo to Comedy Central for ordering 10 episodes of this buzz-worthy show.
