Dracula – 1.05 ‘The Devil’s Waltz’ Now We’ve Got A Series!

By  |

Dracula - Season 1 Mina sleeps while Grayson watches over her. ( Flavors of Twilight anyone? )
Ms. Murray is torn. Her head may say one thing, but her heart has decidedly different bodice-ripping ideas all together. Dreams have a way of revealing our true desires. That dream, paired with Harker’s change in attitude to match his new status, is very troubling. The show must go on, and the party begins without it’s host.

VanHelsing is testing, and Renfield is missing. The Doctor is concerned only for his new defibrillator and epic syringe from hell, which again, proves a failure. If at first you don’t succeed try, try again, but there is a certain vampire who is getting a weensy bit fangy. I’m betting Abraham won’t last another ten years without real results.

Dracula - Season 1

It appears Ms. Clapson is quite, quietly ruthless, and soon sets upon Renfield with resigned exuberance. Her one question: Who does Alexander Grayson love? The answer did not end well for our Victorian Lady. Well, at least before her demise, she found something different to excite her sensibilities.

Vlad is trapped by the sunlight and works behind closed doors to resolve his right-hand-man’s absence as quickly as possible. Once night falls, our fanged friend is able to use all his true gifts which lead him to Renfield’s freedom. Later, these same talents unveil the true culprit as a bonus. Davenport. You are so busted!

Dracula - Season 1Grayson being offered the first dance with Mina was beautifully shot.
The faces of Lady Jayne, Jonathan, and Lucy as the pair twirled revealed more than simple words could speak. In that one waltz, ten years of planning begins to fray. Because as always, the heart, in the end, reveals truth. It is impossible to do aught else.

I must say HALLELUJAH!
This series just got interesting. FINALLY!
We are drawn in by this tale and begin to care what happens. Whereas heretofore all the scheming and wooden performances by this version of Dracula fell flat.
In my opinion, our appeal to Dracula has always been the dichotomy between his strengths and his very real weaknesses. It is his weaknesses that appeal to us so very much.
It is what we adore in our very own loved ones. With Vlad Tepes you recieve the richness of that struggle. I am so very, very pleased that this tale is bringing that facet to light.

My question now. Is anyone still watching to be interested? These days a series needs to grab it’s audience by the throat almost immediatley or face the Cancellation Bear. I hope this new turn continues and NBC has a hit on their hands. I will be watching.
