REVOLUTION S1 WRAP UP

By  |

Wow! Hard to believe that it’s been about 11 months since I first saw the REVOLUTION pilot at San Diego Comic Con (not to mention the huge power symbol that covered an entire hotel outside the convention center). Thinking back to our press room interviews, the show has really changed dramatically over the season. It literally went from bows and swords to drones and nanobots. And while we finally know, kind of, why and how the power went out and we’ve gotten a glimpse of the complicated back stories of Miles, Monroe, Aaron and Rachel, clearly there is a lot still left to learn and many stories left to tell for season 2.

Based on a pre-finale conference call with Billy Burke, who plays Miles Matheson, the cast has been in the dark (ahem…) as much as the audience. It almost feels like it’s been two seasons already, as there was such a different tone between the two halves of season 1 (let’s call them “Saving Danny Matheson” and “Lots of People Die”, shall we?). The show definitely got darker as the season progressed and we saw major characters die, leading to both motivation (Danny)and conflict (Nora)  for the surviving characters.

I thought I’d attempt to recap what we learned and what we still don’t know/new questions from the season 1 finale to give us all something to think and talk about until Season 2 starts in September.

Big Reveals:

  • The power outage was caused by billions of power-hungry, autonomous nanobots that Rachel and Ben were instrumental in designing
  • Said nanobots apparently got a bit out of control and started replicating independently, which took out the whole world’s power
  • They also possess some nifty little side abilities such as healing human tissue and killing cancer cells if one adjusts their programming – they kept preemie Danny alive for years (but apparently couldn’t heal multiple bullet wounds to his chest)
  • The President of the United States is alive and well and has been holed up at Gitmo for 15 years (natch!)
  • Randal’s been working for him the whole time
  • Unbeknownst to him, Aaron (or his code anyway) played a major role in why the power went out and stayed out and it’s way more than dumb luck that he ended up with the Mathesons.

Questions:

  • Is the power back on for good?
  • Will the missiles hit Philly and Atlanta?
  • Is Neville on the side of good, evil, or his own ego? Will Jason stand with him?
  • Are Jason and Charlie quits?
  • Is Monroe completely out of power now? What about his son?
  • What exactly is the nature of Rachel and Miles’ relationship?
  • Are either of them redeemable and can Charlie avoid their fates?
  • What quest do Miles, Rachel, and Charlie go on next?
  • Will the show stay so dark in tone/continue to get  darker even as the lights are back on in season 2 (particularly at 8pm!)?

We’d love to hear your thoughts on any of these questions, or your additions to these lists, so have at it in the comments, don’t be shy!
