KING & MAXWELL: Old Formula Works Well
Last night saw the premiere of TNT’s new show, King & Maxwell. Sean King is played by Jon Tenney (The Closer) and his partner, Michelle Maxwell, is played by Rebecca Romijn (X-Men). They are ex-Secret Service who are now working as private detectives, and they are the best.
In the pilot episode, we learn about Sean’s background as SS agent and how it all went wrong when the presidential candidate he was assigned to protect was killed. He was cleared of all charges with the help of a lawyer friend. Ironically, it is the murder of that same friend that King is now investigating. Having added a law degree to his skills , King can get into places a normal PI could not and this helps him in his new line of work. The case takes a serious turn when it leads to a man accused of being a serial killer and all the people involved lead to political offices.
While King & Maxwell looks like your typical Starsky & Hutch or Cagney & Lacey pairing, it’s still a lot of fun to watch. It’s a formula that works and that we can be comfortable with. The chemistry between Tenney and Romijn is spunky with a hint at becoming romantic, much like Remington Steele and Laura Holt.
I liked the show and I’m adding it to my watch list. I think it will do well on TNT. I’d love to know what you all felt about King & Maxwell. Tell me in the comments below.
King & Maxwell airs on Monday nights at 10/9c.
