NICE BOY OF THE WEEK: Niall Matter

By  |

The Nice Boy of the Week is actor Niall Matter, who had a recurring role on Eureka and will be seen in the Canadian series Primeval: New World that will be seen on Syfy this Saturday.

Niall was born in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada and worked on the oil rigs in Northern Alberta for eight years from the time he was 17 until the age of 25. It was at this time that Niall was hurt in a bad accident that nearly left him losing his right leg. He underwent six months of rehabilitation to learn to walk again and then returned home to Vancouver.

In 2007 he landed his first lead role in the made-for-TV movie Beyond Loch Ness along Brian Krause (Charmed) and the late Don S. David (Stargate: SG1) that aired on Syfy in 2008. This role led to Niall getting a role on the short-lived Canadian teen drama The Best Years. He also made a guest appearance in an episode of Stargate Atlantis followed by a role in the short-lived anthology series Fear Itself. He also had a role in the 2008 direct-to-DVD film Dr. Doolittle: Tail to the Chief.

It was around this time that he landed a small role on the fan favorite series Eureka, playing genius Zane Donovan. Over the course of the next couple of TV seasons, Niall had a small role in the box office movie Watchmen and filmed the ill-fated pilot Mistresses as well as guest roles Warehouse 13, 90210 and Melrose Place. He later became a series regular on Eureka until the show ended last summer.

Niall will now be seen in the lead role in the, albeit short-lived, Canadian series Primeval: New World that will debut on Syfy on Saturday, June 8.
