HART OF DIXIE Recap: Why Don’t We Get Drunk

By  |

It’s Spring Break in Bluebell and it looks like a scene out of a 90’s MTV Spring Break show. Of course Wade is in the middle of it selling beer. Lavon is even in on it. He sold a tour company on the “gulf coasts best kept secret” in order to boost tourism.
At the office Zoe is complaining to Brick about the spring break crowd when Jonah appears. Apparently he is still in town – for three more days anyway. He hits on Zoe and Zoe shuts him down. Jonah isn’t so good at the no for an answer thing though and he does some Why Don’t We Get Drunkdeducing that Zoe never had a spring break (she was too busy studying). He offers her the chance to do spring break in Bluebell with him. He sells it as a chance to help her relax and further get over her break up. I have to admit I’m not sure if I wouldn’t be able to turn down his pretty smile and sarcastic wit but Zoe does.
In the town square Lavon looks up to see Ruby, he makes his way over to her to say hi. She is there to watch her grandfather for a few days until Spring Break is over. They agree to have coffee the next day and talk.

Back at the office Zoe is talking to Wally (the owner of the Rammer Jammer) about his stress and general health. She thinks he needs some time off. He confides in Zoe that he is thinking about selling the Rammer Jammer. His comment about not having had enough fun in his youth gets Zoe to thinking.
At the Rammer Jammer Wally puts up a for sale sign and Wade tells Wally he wants to buy the bar but Wally just laughs and walks away. At the same time Lemon is talking to Annabeth about how she would like to buy the Rammer Jammer and fix it up.

George is at the bar listening to Wally talk about what he is going to do after he sells the Rammer Jammer. Woodworking seems to be the idea that is sticking for him. George looks lover and sees Johan. He scowls and grumbles about how he can’t stand Jonah. Wally however loves Jonah – like everyone else in the town. Jonah comes over and says hi but George says, “I’m not a fan of yours.” Jonah hilariously counters with, “George, your words they cut – Not like knives because you are really dull but more like the soft teeth of some leaf eating mammal.”
Jonah also calls George jealous and just as George says he would never want to be with a girl that is dumb enough to fall for Jonah who should show up but Zoe. She is there to take Jonah up on his offer to Spring Break It Up! George is seriously jealous.

Later George finds Jonah at a foam wrestling match to tell Jonah that Zoe is a good person and he shouldn’t take advantage of her in her somewhat fragile emotional state. Jonah again counters with something funny, “If she wants to play doctor with an actual doctor that would be none of your business.” I’m not Team Jonah but I do find his lines amusing.

Ruby and Lavon are having that coffee they agreed on while walking through the town and talking when the Mayor of Fillmore pulls up in a truck to take anyone who wants to come along to his town for more fun and excitement. A LOT of kids get into the truck. Lavon is upset and Ruby offers to help. Annabeth is watching this whole thing with sad eyes a little ways across the square.

Jonah gets to the office to pick up Zoe for their Spring Break Date when the phone rings. It’s George calling to say he and Brick went fishing and got a flat tire. They won’t be back for a few hours. Jonah calls it classic George Tucker. He goes on to comment that George doesn’t want him doing it with the girl he left his fiancé for. Zoe never said anything about sex, but Jonah says it was implied. Zoe defends George and stomps off.

Ruby’s marketing ploy to keep Spring Break in Bluebell is a “palms on a pleasure craft” contest. You put your hand on the boat and theWhy Don’t We Get Drunk last person touching the boat wins.

At The Buttered Biscuit Annabeth is telling Lemon they have raised $648.00 towards buying the Rammer Jammer oh and Ruby is in town. Annabeth also mentions the boat that the boat in the contest Ruby put on is worth $50K. Now she has Lemon’s attention. Lemon rushes down to the contest, has a few snide words with Ruby and puts her hand on the boat.
Hours later Annabeth is touching up Lemon’s mascara while she watches Ruby sleep on Lavon’s shoulder. Wade is also in the contest – He tells the girl next to him a sob story about his Dad – charismatic bastard. Lemon hears the story and calls him out. Wade however says he’s just lying to her to get her into bed with him. When the girl rightfully slaps Wade she is out for taking her hand off the boat. One more down.

Brick finally gets to the office from the fishing trip only to say he can’t work tonight. He hurt his hand changing the tire that went flat. He also says it was George’s idea to take the scenic route home which is when the tire popped. Oh Zoe is making an angry face – she runs off to find George.

Lemon is trying a page out of Wade’s playbook; she tells a girl a story that scares her into leaving the contest. Wade and Lemon are left with only one other contestant. She is unfortunately a “professional”. She does about 20 of these contests a year. Wade and Lemon look nervous.

Zoe gets to George’s boat to ask if he purposely sabotaged her date with Jonah. Wouldn’t you know Tansy is also there and she is curious to hear George’s answer as well. George admits he doesn’t like Jonah, he takes advantage of women so, “as a friend…” Zoe cuts him off, maybe she was taking advantage of him, she just wanted to have a little fun after her bad few weeks. Zoe leaves poor pretty George on the boat with a not so happy looking Tansy.

Why Don’t We Get DrunkHour 16 at the boat contest and Lemon has had enough. She wants to team up with Wade to take the crazy lady down.
Hour 21 Lemon and Wade start a fake fight that morphs into them using words that don’t make sense in an attempt to make the lady seem like maybe she is losing her mind from sleep deprivation. She does freak out and Wade and Lemon are the last two standing.

Next Shelby shows up at the boat with a cake for Tansy and George. She is worried about Brick. He is acting a little off, getting a lot of headaches. George remembers Brick having a headache when he was driving home from fishing yesterday as well.
At Spring Break Zoe is getting ready to do a keg stand when George shows up. He wants to talk to Zoe and he is sorry but it can’t wait, it is about Brick. Zoe thanks George and Jonah and Zoe go to see Brick.
Zoe and Jonah confront Brick, he can’t ignore this, it could be serious. Brick agrees to get an MRI but no one is allowed to call Shelby, he doesn’t want her thinking she is being saddled with a dying old man. They agree and Zoe says she will pick up Brick in the morning.

Lavon is talking to Annabeth at the boat contest when Ruby shows up with dinner for Lavon. Lavon goes to apologize but Annabeth says its fine and walks away. Lavon wants to know what Ruby is thinking and she admits she loves her life and Dallas but she hates that he isn’t in it. She wants Lavon back and she will do whatever it takes to make it work. He says he will think about it. Annabeth is left looking sad again.

Hour 36 and Wade and Lemon are still standing touching the boat. They both commiserate about their lives. Zoe shows up to tell Lemon about Brick. She wanted to let her know even though Brick told her not to. She thought it was best. Lemon says she has to go and Annabeth says they will find another way to get the money. Right as Lemon takes her hand off the boat Wade does the right thing and takes his hand off too – it’s a tie.
Wade blows off her gratitude with, “It’s no fun to win like that.” He really is a good guy at times.

Zoe, George, Jonah, Annabeth and Lemon are all waiting for Brick in the lobby. Lemon says Annabeth should go, she is always there for her and Lemon hasn’t been a good friend lately. She is sorry she has been selfish. She makes Annabeth leave to go after Lavon and stop him from choosing Ruby. As she is leaving Shelby shows up. She tracked Brick with his phone GPS which isn’t scary at all.
Zoe takes the time to apologize to George for accusing him of sabotage. They have a cute little laugh and George admits he was a little jealous. Jonah isn’t capable of appreciating Zoe and George didn’t like the idea of them together. George says a few very sweet things about Zoe and they smile at each other.

Brick comes out from the MRI to say he is just fine, everything was clear. It was just a migraine. He doesn’t look like he is being Why Don’t We Get Drunktruthful, but everyone seems to buy it.

Annabeth races over to Lavon’s to tell him she knows Ruby is back but before he makes any decisions she wants him to consider her instead of Ruby. Lavon says it’s not a contest because Ruby left. Lavon told Ruby he had feelings for someone else. She gets teary eyed and they kiss.

At the Rammer Jammer Wade and Lemon are talking about the money they are going to make from the boat. They decide to pool their money and buy the Rammer Jammer together. Wade and Lemon in business together will be interesting.

Zoe is outside doing an uninterrupted keg stand with Jonah. Zoe gets a little tipsy but walks Jonah too his car anyway as he is leaving to catch his flight. Jonah says he thinks she is less Spring Break and more Scenic Route. He makes it sound like a compliment and ending up with George would be so I guess he sees that.
