HART OF DIXIE Recap: What’s to Become of a Broken Heart

By  |

Damn the writers for making an equally happy and sad episode all in one.

The Happy: Wanda and Tom decide they don’t want to wait be married, they are going to get married in two days. Wanda asked Zoe to be her Maid of Honor and Tom asks Wade to be his Best Man.
Oh and it is a Star Wars/Lord of the Rings themed wedding. It is glorious.
Before they can get married though Zoe needs to run interference with Wanda’s mom Betsy (Debra Jo Rupp), she can be quite a handful. Wanda describes her as, “The cringey parts of four Bravo reality shows wrapped into one very small woman.”
Keeping track of her is a little harder than Zoe anticipated it will be and in fact she does lose her the night before the wedding. When Zoe finds Betsy she says she isn’t going to the wedding. Wanda’s Dad cheated on her back in the day and she can’t really support Wanda getting married and opening herself up to such heartache. Zoe tells her it isn’t about her it’s about Wanda; she is going to the wedding.
She does in fact go and reins in the crazy long enough to make Wanda’s day perfect. The wedding is fun and sweet and everything you would expect from Tom and Wanda.

The Sad: The episode picks up the morning after Battle of the Bands and as you recall Wade left the bar with a woman who wasn’t Zoe. When Zoe finally tracks him down he says he did leave with a woman but only as far as the parking lot, her battery died and he just helped her get her car going. Zoe believes him and even apologizes for questioning him. Later when George confronts Wade he gets the same story Zoe did and also believes Wade.
However throughout the episode Wade is overly nice and accommodating towards Zoe and after listening to Betsy’s story of her husband cheating she recognizes the signs in Wade. She makes it through the wedding but afterwards she sits with Wade on a bench in town square. Wade comes clean about cheating. For his credit he seems broken up about it, he even tears up and apologizes. Zoe is also crying and when Wade asks her to forgive him she can’t. She says they are too different, she is sorry she pushed him to be something he wasn’t but the way he responded was too hurtful. She leaves him sitting on the bench. It’s heartbreaking after watching them work so hard to get together and stay together over the last year.
Zoe gets to the reception a few moments before Wade. George sees Wade and goes to confront him (having been told by Tansy that the car battery story is one she heard from Wade at one time too). Tansy cuts George off and punches Wade first. She saved him from George kicking his ass or at least trying.
Lavon finds Zoe at the bar and tells Zoe they are going to dance, executive order of the Mayor. She manages a smile and he leads her onto the floor.

The Other: There were a few other things going on this episode.
George and Lavon work to stop the neighboring town of Fillmore from building a mall near the public beach in Bluebell. After a meeting of the Mayor’s doesn’t work George says they are going to take them to court.
George gets hyped up for his court date channeling his NY lawyer. After they win the case for an injunction Lavon says George is like, “Tom Cruise in A Few Good Men, meets Tom Cruise in The Firm, meets Tom Cruise jumping on Oprah’s couch. Sharp, wiley and a little unhinged.”

Lemon meanwhile is a little sad about the upcoming wedding.
Since Lemon is still mad at Annabeth she needs a friend and takes Crickets advice to see a psychic. As Cricket points out Lemon has lost her best friend, her business, her boyfriend and this will be the first wedding in Bluebell since her failed attempt to marry George.
Lemon sits down with the psychic who tells Lemon she has already met her true companion.
Lemon, thinking about what the psychic said, runs into a guy she went to school in the 2nd grade with and asks him to dinner and the wedding. That evening Lemon and her 2nd grade classmate are at dinner and it’s awkward. He’s a little odd, alright very odd. Annabeth, who is also at the restaurant, saves Lemon with a fake emergency getting her out of the date.
The next morning Lemon is getting her hair done and the hairdresser is making her feel bad about going to the wedding alone. Annabeth speaks up because she is also getting her hair done. She tells Lemon she is going to the wedding alone too and it’s fine.
At the reception Lemon and Annabeth are sitting together; it looks like they are making up. They even went to the wedding together Lemon says the psychic is right; she is at the wedding with her true companion.
