TV Calendar for August

The following list provides the summer shows that are returning for their new season; or some instances, coming to a close, the new summer shows that will be debuting, made-for-TV movies and specials that will all air during August:

August 4 – The special The Science of Doctor Who will debut at 11 PM on BBC America

Special Details: This special will explore the real life science behind the biggest concepts and most iconic ideas in Doctor Who.

August 5 – The 100th episode of Army Wives will air on Lifetime at 10 PM

August 5 – The season finale of the Canadian drama Continuum is expected to air at 9 PM on Showcase

August 9 – The season finale of Dallas will air on TNT at 9 PM

August 10 – The season finale of Common Law will air on the USA Network at 10 PM

August 11 – The special The Women of Doctor Who will debut on BBC America at 9 PM

Special Details: Behind every great Time Lord there’s a great woman. Whether they’re busting Daleks or the Doctor’s ego, the women of Doctor Who prove that you don’t need testosterone to save the universe.

August 11 – The Hallmark Channel original movie The Music Teacher will debut at 9 PM

MOVIE SYNOPSIS: Annie Potts plays Alyson Daley, a high school music teacher who loses her beloved music program to district budget cuts. Alyson created the program to help her eager, ambitious and talented students excel professionally and losing it means the kids will not have musical performance as an avenue to a brighter future. Just when she thinks the dream is over, Alyson’s former students reunite to put on a show-stopping musical to raise funds to keep the program – and everyone’s dreams – alive. The cast includes Richard Thomas.

August 11 – Boogeyman, the original Syfy movie, will debut at 9 PM

MOVIE SYNOPSIS: Eddie McClintock (Warehouse 13) and Emma Samms (General Hospital) star in a modern-day retelling of the Cain and Abel story that revolves around a deadly supernatural creature who escapes into the world after its keeper suddenly dies, killing indiscriminately while hunting for a new human to be its ‘brother.’

August 12 – The season finale of both The Glades and Longmire will air on A&E at 9 and 10 PM respectively

August 12 – Season two of Hell on Wheels will start at 9 PM on AMC

August 13 – Teen Wolf will air its season finale on MTV at 10 PM

August 13 – Grimm will return for the start of its second season on NBC at 10 PM (with 3 more new episodes airing the next 3 Mondays)

August 13 – The series finale of The Closer will air on TNT at 9 PM

August 13 – The new TNT series Major Crimes, the spin-off from The Closer, will debut at 10 PM

Show Synopsis: Mary McDonnell stars as Police Captain Sharon Raydor in this spin-off that will focus on how the American justice system approaches the art of the deal as law-enforcement officers and prosecutors work together to score a conviction. The cast includes The Closer vets G.W. Bailey, Tony Denison, Michael Paul Chan, Raymond Cruz and Phillip P. Keene and new cast members Graham Patrick Martin and Kearran Giovanni.

August 14 – The summer finale of Rizzoli & Isles and Franklin & Bash will both air on TNT at 9 and 10 PM respectively

August 17 – Boss, the Starz original series, will be back for its second season at 10 PM

August 17 – Strike Back will return for its second season on Cinemax at 10 PM

August 18 – The special The Timey-Wimey Stuff of Doctor Who premiere at 11 PM on BBC America

Special Details: When the Doctor’s around, tomorrow is yesterday, yesterday is tomorrow and 18th century France is in your fireplace. Confused yet?

August 18 – The Hallmark Channel original movie Smart Cookies will debut at 9 PM

MOVIE SYNOPSIS: Julie Sterling (Jessalyn Gilsig) is a high-maintenance realtor who is just two sales away from being named “Real Estate Agent of the Year.” A firm businesswoman, her schedule doesn’t leave much time for anything else, including relationships. So when her boss Lola (Patricia Richardson) launches a closeted promotion for the company masquerading as company-wide commitment to community pro-social work, and assigns Julie to lead a struggling local Girl Scout troop, Julie is full of protests. Then, she meets the group of hopeless girls, a troop named the Fireflies, including eager new member Daisy (Bailee Madison). As she gets to the know the girls and sees their desperate need for friendship and self-esteem, Julie begins to do whatever it takes to transform them from zeroes to heroes in the annual cookie sale competition against their cruel rivals, the Monarchs, led by superior scout volunteer Hazel (Samantha Ferris).
The cast also includes Ty Olsson.

August 19 – The new BBC America drama Copper will debut at 9 PM

Show Synopsis: Tom Weston-Jones (Life on Mars) stars as a rugged Irish-American cop working the City’s notorious Five Points neighborhood, struggling to maintain his moral compass in a turbulent world, while on an emotional and relentless quest to learn the truth about the disappearance of his wife and the death of his daughter. His friendship with two Civil War compatriots takes him to the contrasting worlds of elegant Fifth Avenue and an emerging African-American community in rural northern Manhattan. The three men share a secret from their experience on the battlefield that inextricably links their lives forever. The cast includes Tanya Fischer, Franka Potente, Kyle Schmid and Anastasia Griffith [among others].

August 19 – The finale of Falling Skies will air on TNT at 9 PM

August 19 – The final episode of the mini-series Political Animals will air on USA at 10 PM

August 20 – Major Crimes will move to its regular timeslot on TNT at 9 PM

August 20 – Bunheads will air its season finale on ABC Family at 9 PM

August 20 – The Ovation channel 3-part mini-series What To Do When Someone Dies will debut at 8 PM

Mini-Series Synopsis: Based on the best-selling novel by Nicci French, this mini tells the story of Ellie Manning (Anna Friel from Pushing Daisies), a young wife who struggles to uncover the truth behind her husband Greg’s death (Marc Warren from Band of Brothers), after he dies in a late night car crash with a strange woman in the seat beside him.

August 23 – The season finale of Burn Notice and the summer finale of Suits will both air on the USA Network at 9 and 10 PM respectively

August 25 – The special The Destinations of Doctor Who will debut on BBC America at 9 PM

Special Details: Leave the beach towel at home and take a trip to the end of the Earth – literally. From the Starship UK to one very haunted hotel, you won’t find the destinations of Doctor Who in any guidebook.

August 25 – The Lifetime movie Fatal Honeymoon will debt at 8 PM

MOVIE SYNOPSIS: Harvey Keitel, Amber Clayton and Bill Miller star in this film that is based on a true story that tells the shocking story and controversy surrounding a newlywed who tragically dies on her dream honeymoon and the subsequent investigation as to whether or not her husband was guilty of killing her.

August 25 – The Hallmark Movie Channel will debut the movie Strawberry Summer at 8 PM

MOVIE SYNOPSIS: Beth Landon (Julie Mond), a small-town music teacher with big singing aspirations has been crowned the Strawberry Queen of the annual Festival. Pulling some strings, Beth has landed country music heartthrob Jason Keith (Trevor Donovan) to perform at this year’s event. A one-hit wonder notorious for cancelling shows, Jason with his bad-boy attitude isn’t what Beth’s mother, Eileen (Shelley Long), considers a reliable musical act for the town’s beloved festival, which she is proudly hosting. Beth attempts to stick up for her favorite singer, but when she finally meets Jason face-to-face, it becomes obvious it won’t be easy. But behind Jason’s rock star stereotypes, he’s hiding a secret about his past that could turn his tanking career around. Along with his Jason’s manager, Beth convinces Jason the festival gig is a great way to revitalize his career and win back his audience appeal. Soon, as Jason spends more time with Beth and finds himself opening up for the first time, an unexpected romance develops and they help each other find the courage to pursue their real passions in life. Cindy Williams also stars.

August 25 – The Syfy movie Haunted High will debut at 9 PM

MOVIE SYNOPSIS: Charisma Carpenter, Danny Trejo, Jonathan Baron, M.C. Gainey and Marc Donato star in a story about a New England private school that is visited by a demonic dead headmaster (M.C. Gainey). Trejo plays the janitor/guardian of the school with Baron as the headmaster’s grandson, Donato as the school’s bad boy and Carpenter as the sexy librarian.

August 26 – True Blood and The Newsroom will both air their finales on HBO at 9 and 10 PM respectively

August 27 – The summer finale of The Secret Life of the American Teenager on ABC Family will air at 8 PM

August 27 – The L.A. Complex will move to 8 PM on Monday nights on The CW starting tonight

August 27 – Part 2 of the 3-part mini-series What To Do When Someone Dies will debut at 8 PM on the Ovation Channel

August 28 – Pretty Little Liars will air its summer finale on ABC Family at 8 PM

August 29 – The summer finale of Necessary Roughness will air on USA at 10 PM
