THE VAMPIRE DIARIES: Break On Through Recap

THE VAMPIRE DIARIES: Break On Through Recap

This episode left me with a few comments and questions I have to express with the first one being, where is Klaus? Seriously, we have had no Klaus for the last 2 episodes and that is just unacceptable (especially for CaroKlaus lovers like me). And second, I will no longer be referring to Dr. Meredith Fell as “Psycho Doc” as we saw who the real psycho was in this episode, Alaric.

We begin with Alaric in the hospital getting an MRI and he creepily stares at himself in the scan machine’s mirror. Meredith tells Elena that she suspected Alaric was the killer of Council members when she remembered a story her grandmother told her about Samantha Gilbert and her journal.  The MRI proves there is nothing physically wrong with Alaric, so he assumes that the ring is causing him to go crazy. He gave it to Elena for safe keeping (which I thought was a bad idea, it should have been a vampire or someone who could handle him if he had another murderous episode).

Damon is at a Wickery Bridge event because he wants to find out what Rebekah has up her sleeve. Sage shows up (which was no surprise since she was introduced to us last week) because she heard that her long lost love Finn was out of his coffin. Finn turned her into a vampire so they could be together forever and then was daggered by Klaus. She offers to help Damon find out what Rebekah is up to by getting inside her head. So Damon invites Rebekah to a suggested 3-way party with him and Sage (I mean who can resist a sexy Salvatore?).

At the Salvatore’s Elena walks in to find Stefan researching Samantha Gilbert and making himself a bloody cocktail. He told her Samantha was committed to an asylum and tried to give herself a lobotomy with a needle and bled to death. He warns her if Alaric is going through the same thing, there is nothing she can do to help him.

When Damon got home, he caught Stefan sucking down several blood bags. He told Stefan to get lost unless he wanted to be caught in a “Sage-Rebekah Sex Sandwich.” Rebekah shows up with a bottle and announced “I stole it from Nik, who stole it from a queen. I’m not sure which one” (what a great line). Then of course they started getting their dance on, I mean because that is what you do before a sex-sandwich. Rebekah got jealous watching Damon and Sage until Damon confessed “I don’t want her. I want you.” They began to makeout and next thing you know, Damon and Rebekah were naked in bed.

A satisfied Rebekah fell asleep and Sage snuck into the room to read her mind (hmmm…a vampire who reads minds. Is her last name Cullen?). Sage headed to Damon’s shower so she could show Damon what she’d seen in Rebekah’s mind (and by show, I mean kiss). Damon saw Rebekah’s conversations with Klaus and the mayor about the old white oak tree and the Salvatore Milling Company. Next, my favorite part of the entire episode happened. Damon put on only a towel (thank you CW for knowing what we want) and looked for the milling company’s information from 1912. He found it and discovered that the tree was used to build the Wickery Bridge.

Damon, who was still in a towel, shared his news with Sage. She threatened to kill him if he went after Finn (since the wood can kill an Original). Damon made her a deal, if she helped him kill Rebekah, he wouldn’t touch Finn.

Sage left while Damon was getting dressed. When he got to the bridge he found Rebekah and Sage lit the bridge on fire. Apparently Rebekah’s mind wasn’t the only one she read. Sage saw in Damon’s mind that the Originals were bound, and if Rebekah dies so will Finn. Feeling set up, Damon told her the truth about her beloved Finn and how he had a death wish and doesn’t love her.  Bad boy Damon was pissed off and told her when he finds another way to kill the Originals, Finn will be first on his list.

Over at Abby’s house Jamie took Caroline’s advice (not to be afraid of Abby) and went in to build a fire. Abby was happy to see him and hugged him. She appeared to be in control until her bloodlust took over and she bit him (there goes not being afraid of her).

After hearing about Alaric’s condition, Abby believed Bonnie could use magic to reverse the damage. Caroline would stay with Abby, and Bonnie (who has been avoiding Elena) would perform the spell. Bonnie needed a token of Alaric’s that he wore prior to wearing his ring so Elena went to get his wedding ring from his apartment.

Stefan was waiting for Elena at Alaric’s, doing more research on Samantha Gilbert and found out that some of her violent behavior happened when she wasn’t wearing the ring. Uh Oh.  They found pictures of Alaric’s victims and a package for Jeremy that had a note and a hit list telling him to let the ring make him strong and to cleanse the Council. OMG! Elena found the wedding ring, and they left.

Alaric woke up from a nap and we knew something was off. He emptied Meredith’s syringes (that she was to use to protect herself if he snapped) and came into the kitchen to ask her if she ever felt remorse. He said she should and stabbed her in the stomach. Alaric chased Meredith and she locked herself in the bathroom. When Stefan and Elena arrived, Stefan sensed something was wrong. Alaric came downstairs wrapping his hand (which Meredith stabbed). Elena made a smart move by telling Alaric that Stefan hadn’t caught up to her. Alaric saw the knife he’d used on Meredith on the floor and went for it but Stefan put him in a chokehold until he passed out (sigh of relief).

Stefan broke down the bathroom door, and Meredith was sitting on the floor, surrounded by blood and Stefan had a true test of self-control, which he passed. He bit his wrist and gave Meredith his blood. Next we see Alaric wake up in bed with Damon sitting next to him. He told him that Bonnie had performed a spell to keep his inner killer away. Bonnie told Elena that all the times he cheated death had damaged Alaric’s psyche and made it easier for the darkness to take over.

At Abby’s Caroline and Jamie were working together in the garden. She went inside the house to find Abby writing a goodbye note. She thinks Bonnie and Jamie will be better off without her. Caroline told Abby that Bonnie wants to make this work and she had an eternity to make things right with her. Abby apologized and walked out again (poor Bonnie).

Elena called Jeremy to check on him and it is great to see Jeremy living a normal non-supernatural life. While at the Salvatore Mansion, Stefan was celebrating to his self-control with an alcoholic beverage when Damon came home. We find out that the restored Wickery Bridge sign is made of the same wood as the bridge. Damon tricked Sage and Rebekah by letting them believe all the wood burned with the bridge. So the game is back on and the Salvatore brothers are ready to kill some Originals! Man do I love those two.

So what did you think of this episode? Do you think Bonnie’s spell will work on Alaric? Do you think Abby will ever return? And again, when are we going to see Klaus? Let me know your thoughts in the comment section below.

The Vampire Diaries airs Thursday nights at 8/7c on The CW.

Girl this episode was very interesting! I loved every part of it except the part where they r making Alaric a psychotic serial killer! I love his character… The bad ass & the good guy/gentleman all wrapped up in one! Oh & add attractive to the list! He’s sexy! :-) I really hope the Bennett spell worked! Speaking of the Bennetts, will Bonnie ever get a break? She finally gets a mothers love in her life, but once again Elena needs help so off she goes, only to return to the heartbreak of her mother abandoning her… Again! Will she ever find happiness for herself? Moving on, I agree w/u about Klaus needing to return ASAP… Going thru withdrawals not seeing his sexy Original self… And add Tyler’s cute butt to that as well! How long does he need to learn werewolf control? Seriously?? LOL Great Episode… Can’t wait til the next one! Til then… Smooches! XOXO

I know! A lot of people are upset about the Alaric storyline. I love his character too. And Bonnie! You are right she can’t catch a break! I was hoping when Abby decided to complete the change she would work on her relationship with Bonnie. I hate that she left again. I am going through Klaus and Tyler withdrawals too! We can only wait and hope for their return!

Awesome!! LOVED the Cullen reference by the way!! And I will say that I’m thoroughly disappointed/blech over the whole Alaric is a crazy, deranged murderer story line. And after reading your review, I wonder… did Damon set up Sage/Rebekah… as in, did he know that the sign was made out of the wood and didn’t tell Sage just to see if she would turn on them?

I’m glad you liked my shout out to Twilight. :) I think you are on to something! I do think Damon set them up. He knew she could read minds so he only let her see what he wanted her to see. I think he wasn’t sure whether to trust Sage and was right not doing so. I love a clever sexy man!
