COMMUNITY: Studies in Modern Movement

By  |

Ah, so it’s another week for our study group on Community, and this time we spend the whole episode away from campus. I’m shocked, and happy to see everyone in a different atmosphere. This time it’s mostly Abed and Troy’s apartment as Annie moves in. As is to be expected Jeff wants to avoid being in the process, so he fakes sick all weekend (with the help of a very nice salesperson at The Gap).

It’s also hilarious (and on point) that Britta’s ideas of what happens when people move in together aren’t too far off.

I have to give the show credit for the Twitter hashtag; #AnniesMove is pretty hilarious. As was “Tweet It!” But of course that hilarity is tempered by the stupid things that Abed and Troy seem to do with their time, like hanging from the door and the bubblewrap headgear. It also worries me that Pierce is, or was, a handyman. That bodes so well for the rest of the episode.

I do have to laugh at the idea of the group’s moral compass as Shirley’s religion. Which, it’s so very not, but the idea is making me giggle. Shirley really is the black sheep of the group.

If I happened upon Dean Pelton at the mall, I’d be just as scared, Jeff. Also, finally knowing the Dean’s real name makes me squirm and want to take a cold shower. I don’t even know why. Well, I do know why; it has to do with the creepy tones of Pelton’s conversation and the awkward lunch plans.

I do love that after Britta’s whole conversation about Shirley’s moral compass that we are treated to a Jesus hitchhiker who loves marijuana. He then makes both Britta and Shirley feel really awkward in the car (for various reason) before he’s kicked out for wanting to oppose interracial relationships.

Of course, back at apartment 303, Annie is realizing that living with Troy and Abed might not be all it’s cracked up to be–especially if she’s going to live in a blanket fort when there’s another room (the Dreamporium) that sits waiting for their personal fantasies.

While that is going on, there’s more awkward moments between Craig and Jeff, including a karaoke redition of “Kiss from a Rose” that brought me all the way back to junior high school dances and the myriad B’nai Mitzvot that I attended. It verges on even more creepy and awkward when Craig reveals information that he could have only gotten by reading Jeff’s private emails. Craig–there went all of your chances to get into Jeff’s pants.

Back at the new home of Annie Edison, Troy and Abed made the noble decision to give Annie the room she needed and took over the blanket fort instead.

As is only true for the study group, Craig turned some of the photos of Jeff’s karaoke performance and Jeff’s embarrassed.

I’d also say that the puppeteering between Troy and Abed for Annie was adorable, and especially funny in the tag at the end.
