Women Behind the Scenes Spotlight: Martha Mitchell
Today’s Women Behind the Scenes spotlight is shone on Director Martha Mitchell, who actually got her start in 1982 by working in the industry as a Script Supervisor on a small independent film called Liquid Sky and as a Second Assistant Director on a horror film called Madman.
Over the course of the next 8 years, she continued to work as a Script Supervisor on such projects as The Princess and the Call Girl, Old Enough, Compromising Position, Morgan Stewart’s Coming Home and Missing Pieces.
During that time she landed a position as a Script Supervisor on Law & Order and then later also on New York Undercover. It was thanks to her work on Law & Order that she got to step behind the camera as a Director for the show, which led to more directing opportunities on the short-lived series Strange Luck, Courthouse, Malibu Shores, Prey and Timecop.
At the turn of the century, she directed episodes for TV shows such as The Practice, Promised Land, Chicago Hope, Now and Again, Charmed, Family Law, The Education of Max Bickford, Strong Medicine and Haunted.
She followed those directing duties with work on TV shows like The Guardian, The Division, Judging Amy, Joan of Arcadia, Numb3rs, Close to Home, Jericho, Veronica Mars, NCIS and Without a Trace.
Most recently she has directed episodes of the short-lived series Mercy as well as Raising the Bar and The Mentalist.
NOTE: I was unable to track down a picture of Martha to include with this spotlight.
