Just a few months after the cancellation of The New Adventures of Old Christine, Julia Louis-Dreyfus is lining up her next project, Veep on HBO. From British comedian, writer and director Armando Iannucci, Veep is the story of a female Vice President of the United States who discovers that the job isn’t quite what she expected.

The project has an impressive pedigree – HBO is experiencing a renaissance in original programming while Iannucci is a BAFTA winner for his series The Thick Of It, which satirizes the inner workings of the British government. That series spawned a film, In The Loop, which was nominated for an Oscar for best screenplay.

Veep could be the comedic West Wing, although one has to wonder if a British showrunner will be a plus (outsiders often have unique insights) or a minus (outsiders often miss the nuances). At the very least, it will be fun to see Julia Louis-Dreyfus tackle this satirical material.
