Raising Hope Gets Full Season Order From Fox

Raising Hope is the first new show of the season to receive a full-season pickup. The sitcom from My Name Is Earl creator Greg Garcia is performing well in its post-Glee spot on FOX and received the back-9 pick up earlier today.

Raising Hope gets full season order / FOX

I’ve been meaning to write a piece about Raising Hope since accidentally catching the pilot two weeks ago. I hadn’t intended to watch it; the premise didn’t appeal to me and the previews looked mildly funny but not really up my alley. When I was out in Los Angeles for a set visit a couple of weeks ago, I stayed with a friend who tuned into FOX that Tuesday night. To my surprise, we both howled with laughter throughout Raising Hope. Much of the humor was “soooo wrong!” yet so well executed – speaking of “executed”, is this the first sitcom in history to send a young mother to the electric chair before the first commercial break? And how did they make that funny? Lucas Neff’s well-meaning attempts at being a responsible parent had this auntie of 10 chuckling, but perennial villain Garret Dillahunt as a grandfather who barely seems able to feed himself? Brilliant! Add Martha Plimpton and Cloris Leachman to the mix, and we were literally laughing until we cried.

It was such a surprise that I wanted to wait until at least the second episode before professing any public love for the show. Then my To Do list grew by leaps and bounds and I kept putting off writing the article. So I want to thank FOX for not only giving my favorite new comedy a full season, but also giving me an opportunity to cross something else off my To Do list.

Raising Hope airs Tuesdays at 9/8c on FOX.
