Nice Boy of the Week: Joey Lawrence

By  |

Say hello to our new Nice Boy, Joey Lawrence.  Joey is currently starring  in the new ABC Family sitcom, Melissa & Joey. Lawrence has come quite a long way since Gimme A Break! in which he appeared as Joey Donovan until 1987. Since then, he played Joey Russo, a dim-witted teenager who frequently uttered the phrase “Whoa!”,on the series Blossom. Due to the success of the show, the word  became a catchphrase heard everywhere.

Other credits include Brotherly Love and Run of the House, and has guest starred on shows such as American Dreams and CSI: NY. One of Lawrence’s movie credits is Urban Legends: Final Cut (2000). In 2006, Joey competed in ABC’s Dancing with the Stars, placing third with dance partner Edyta Śliwińska . He played Billy Flynn in the Broadway smash hit, Chicago in 2007.

A man of many talents, Joey also graces the music industry. His debut album, Joey Lawrence, was released in 1993. He co-wrote some of the songs on the album, including the hit “Nothin’ My Love Can’t Fix”. I hope he doesn’t give up on that part of his career, because I think it would be nice to hear from him again very soon.

Joey has much to be proud of, but nothing more than his two little girls, Charleston and Liberty Grace. Except for maybe wife, Chandie Yawn-Nelson.

Catch Joey on ABC Family’s Melissa & Joey, Tuesdays at 8/7 central.
