Cougar Town Not Getting New Name

After months of speculation and suggestions from everyone and their mother, executive producer Bill Lawrence says Cougar Town will not be getting a new name. Talking to EW’s Ausiello, Lawrence said, “I’m not changing the title. We never thought of a good new one, which kind of sucks. And when you look at the modern landscape of television, changing the title means changing your DVR and all this other stuff.”

As the show evolved, it became less about one 40-something’s life after divorce and more about a network of friends and family. Maybe Cougar Town isn’t the best name for what the show has become, but all the publicity over the possible title change and the reason for it – that the show is so much more than just “cougars” – will bring more viewers next season. This is one show that improved consistently throughout the season and deserves more attention from viewers, even if it is saddled with a silly title.
