Top 10 Favorite Holiday Movies

“Top 10″ lists are all the rage these days, and I’m a fan of them. I read them all, and some of them are much like my own. The holiday season is upon us and this is my favorite time of the year. There’s nothing I like more during this season, than to curl up on my couch in my warmest pajamas and fuzzy slipper socks, a glass of warm, spiced wine in my grip, and one of my favorite holiday movies on my tube. In my opinion, some of the best holiday movies are:

Bing Crosby, Rosemary Clooney, Vera Ellen and Danny Kaye in White Christmas

Bing Crosby, Rosemary Clooney, Vera Ellen and Danny Kaye in "White Christmas"

  • A Christmas Carol (every version made)
  • White Christmas
  • Holiday Inn
  • The Polar Express
  • A Christmas Story
  • It’s A Wonderful Life
  • The Santa Claus
  • Christmas In Connecticut
  • The Man Who Came to Sinner
  • National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation

Does your list look like mine? What’s missing? Check back next week for my top 10 favorite holiday family specials.

Hi Ladies! As I type this, I am watching The Honeymooners’ Christmas episode…only time they purposely broke the fourth wall at the end to wish everyone a Merry Christmas! Very nice, but I’ll hold off on the Christmas TV until you get to it!

I love your list! And I completely agree with the first choice as it is, and being in the number 1 position. I still would love to play Scrooge on stage one day…we’ll see! The only Christmas film that I don’t see here that I can think of right now as a favorite is Miracle on 34th Street. I love the original the best – with Natalie Wood, Edmund Gwenn, and Maureen O’Hara (“Age – As old as my tongue and a little older than my teeth…”). However, they also made a couple others, and my other favorite is the one made in the 90s, with Elizabeth Perkins, Dylan McDerrmott (yum!), and Mara Wilson – Richard Attenborogh as Kris. A very lovely version, I think.

I look forward to the family specials and any other holiday lists you share with us. Thanks again! (I can remember a long time ago when someone imagined a winter wedding, and a dress like the ladies wore in the picture above….and she would have been stunning in it!)

Oh, ok, and now they are showing the Dick Van Dyke Christmas episode that fans of that show know so well!
