However I think you nailed it with point 2. I don't think the show needs more humour, in fact I hate Whedon's cheesy dialouge which doesn't sound at all like people really talk (quite apart from his lack of plot continuity, poor world-building, and logic errors). However I think it's a very alienating concept. How many times do the Actives end up on 'romantic engagements' which end up with them being raped? And that's quite apart from the number of times they're variously beaten up or degraded. In short, their choice is utterly taken away from them for the amusement of the rich and the powerful. That's not a comfortable show to watch. Points 1 and 3 both somewhat over-emphasise both the importance of the Whedonites and the internet viewing public.
