Nathan Fillion, Cupid Coming MidSeason!

By  |

I know, I know, we haven’t even started the regular season yet so why get excited for midseason? I’ll tell you why – Nathan Fillion’s new series, Castle, has been picked up, and so has Rob Thomas’s remake of his show Cupid!

Nathan, of course, was Captain Tightpants Malcolm Reynolds on Firefly and, most recently, Captain Hammer in DOCTOR HORRIBLE’S SING-ALONG BLOG. Castle is the story of a mystery writer (Nathan) who advises the New York City police on particularly difficult cases. No word yet on whether Nathan’s character’s name is Captain…

The original Cupid aired on ABC in 1998-1999 and starred Jeremy Piven and Paula Marshall. The premise was that Piven’s character was (or thought he was) Cupid, the god of love. This belief lands him in a mental hospital where he is assigned to Marshall’s psychiatrist. The show didn’t even have a full season, if I recall correctly, but I absolutely loved it! Over the past 10 years, I’ve wished off and on that it would be remade because it really was terrific. The do-over plan has been gestating for about a year now, but it’s finally come to pass and Cupid will be back on our screens in early 2009. This time around, Bobby Cannavale will play Cupid and Sarah Paulson will take over as the psychiatrist. Now that Thomas has honed his craft with shows like Veronica Mars, I expect this version will sparkle even more. Plus there’s the potential for Thomas fans like Piven, Marshall, Jason Dohring, etc. to guest star!

Both Cupid and Castle are slated to appear in early 2009 on ABC. We’ll keep you updated on both!
